ISLAND LAND PURCHASED

40 ACRES TO BE DEVELOPED AS AMUSEMENT PARK.

TOURIST CAMP WILL BE OPENED FOR COMING SEASON: COMPANY TO SPEND $250,000.

Forty acres of land on Hayden island have been purchased by William A. Logus and Leo F. Smith from the Portland Electric Power company. It was announced yesterday. The transaction had been under consideration for several months. Although the purchase price was not given out, it is understood to be about $40,000. George J. Kelly, property manager of the Portland Electric Power company, represented his firm in the deal.

Logus and Smith are head of the Hayden Island Amusement company, which was incorporated recently. They plan to improve the property and to erect a dike to protect the island from flood. The tract will be used for a modern amusement resort and tourist park. A beach on either side of the island will be improved for swimming.

The property is adjacent to the Interstate highway, on the extreme south end of the island, and is near the approach of the interstate bridge. It is planned to have the tourist camp ready for operation by spring. The amusement park will not be ready for opening until a year from next summer. About $250,000 will be spent, according to present plans in providing amusement equipment.

The Hayden Island Amusement company was incorporated for $150,000, and Logus and Smith state that additional capital will be invested as soon as arrangements for installing the amusement devices have been completed.
