To Teachers:
One of the books we had the students read was Voyage of a Summer Sun, by Robin Cody. It’s a beautiful book about Cody’s trip down the river in a canoe. It presents detailed descriptions of parts of the river students have never seen, answers questions about land use, raises questions about policymaking, analyzes connections between people and natural communities along the river, and tells a good adventure story. Cody generously agreed to come to Stevenson to talk with students after they had read the book. We also gave them assigned tasks:
Reading Schedule
Over the next couple of weeks, you will prepare for Robin Cody’s visit by reading his book and keeping a reading log. Your log should do the following for each reading assignment:
1. Summarize the important parts of the reading
2. Indicate which part of the reading is most interesting for you and why
3. Ask at least two good questions of the author
