The Camas Post
December 9, 1932

The award of $5,000 damages by a jury to Paul Hinz by his case against the Crown Willamette Paper company took most Camas residents by surprise. Most of us are willing enough to admit that we don’t like the smell of the kraft mill. It has much of the rich odor of decayed cabbage – which never did appeal to us. But on the other hand most of us realize that the plant that produces the highly odiferous atmosphere also produces work for a large number of our townspeople and in these days a job is a mighty important thing. In fact, we would a great deal prefer the situation as it is now – plenty of jobs and plenty of odor to a situation of no odor and no jobs!
