3. Morrill Hall, 1903 A view of the front entrance to the recently-completed Morrill Hall, WSU building #24. Landscaping is now present with trees and hedges placed around the building; a pair of street lamps frame the entrance. Morrill Hall was named for Senator Justin S. Morrill, whose bill of 1862 provided for the foundation of land grant institutions. Begun in 1901, it remained unfinished until 1903 due to legal problems that temporarily halted all building funds. Designed by Josenhans & Allen at a cost $33,000, Morrill Hall originally served as the chemistry building (until the construction of Fulmer Hall). An innovative feature of the structure was the placement of the general laboratory on the top floor to provide better ventilation.

6. Morrill Hall Architects: [Timotheus] Josenhans and [Norris B.] Allen. Although construction on this building began in 1901 it was not completed and furnished until 1903. Dedicated June 16, 1903; it was originally the Chemistry Building. Named for Senator Justin S. Morrill, whose 1862 Act of Congress provided basic law under which State College came into existence as a land grant institution. Cost, $33,000. Ca. 1960s, it housed the Police Science and Geology Departments.
