Morrill Hall, 1903

A view of the front entrance to the recently-completed Morrill Hall, WSU building #24. The structure is devoid of surrounding landscaping; a dirt path leads to the entrance. Morrill Hall was named for Senator Justin S. Morrill, whose bill of 1862 provided for the foundation of land grant institutions. Begun in 1901, it remained unfinished until 1903 due to legal problems that temporarily halted all building funds. Designed by Josenhans & Allen at a cost $33,000, Morrill Hall originally served as the chemistry building (until the construction of Fulmer Hall). An innovative feature of the structure was the placement of the general laboratory on the top floor to provide better ventilation.

Dedicated June 16, 1903; it was originally the Chemistry Building. Named for Senator Justin S.
