Following the initial blasting, crews built coffer dams to hold water out of the construction site. The first concrete for the spillways, shown here, was poured in August 1951, with this portion of the project completed in less than a year. During the next stage of the project, workers built the powerhouse. The large concrete structure filled the north channel of the river and housed three generators.
