The nearly bare hills of Pullman are visible in the background, as is the Finch Memorial Hospital. The lifting tower rises prominently at the site; and automobile is parked across from the building construction. Waller Hall, originally the New Men's Dormitory, was designed by Stanley Smith and built in 1935, as a community project under the Self-Amortization Plan, at a cost of $175,000. Named for Osmar L. Waller, former vice president of WSU. Waller Hall, WSU Building #39, continues to serve as a men's residence. The Colonial Revival style of architecture is strongly related to Stimson Hall. The Self-Amortization Plan (conceived by Regent McCroskey, Bursar Krugal and President Holland ) was developed at WSU and later adopted throughout the nation. 25 stockholders drawn from the university and Pullman business people formed the Community Building Corporation. Each stockholder held two $100 shares. The Corporation sold bonds for the construction of numerous buildings including, Community Hall, Stimson Hall, Commons, Waller, and Duncan-Dunn.plain2018-09-12T21:16:44+00:00Is found in PC 3, WSU Buildings Photographs http://libraries.wsu.edu/masc/finders/pc3.htm at Washington State University Libraries' Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) http://libraries.wsu.edu/mascpc003b06f11_78-441; pc149b2n78-441ImageCampus buildings; Dormitories--Washington (State)--Pullman; Building construction--Washington (State)--Pullman; Automobiles--Washington (State)--Pullman; Hospitals--Washington (State)--Pullman; Waller Hall05/31/1935ark:/80444/xv40374Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections, Washington State University Libraries: http://libraries.wsu.edu/mascUnited States--Washington (State)--Whitman County--PullmanNo known copyright.
