Mechanical Engineering Shops, 1931

Architect: Stanley Smith. Built in 1930. The much smaller Mechanical Engineering Foundry (22) was built just uphill of it in 1938, and the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (46) followed to the south of it in 1941-1942. Those three buildings, as well as the power plant downhill from them, are often confused in name, date, and identification number, so take information about each with a grain of salt. Both the Shops and the Laboratory looked very similar (two long thin buildings with a center connection), but the presence of the doors in the center of each clarify which these are, as the Engineering Laboratory buildings have windows in that space (entrance doors in the Engineering Laboratory Buildings are between them, in the connecting space). The Shops were torn down in May 1995 to make room for ETRL.
